Andrea Leadsom of Vote Leave doesn't think we should leave the EU
Переглядів 7 тис.7 років тому
Tory leadership hopeful and Vote Leave campaigner Andrea Leadsom previously said 'Brexit would be a disaster'. Andrea Leadsom made repeated calls for Britain to leave the European Union during the referendum campaign, when she dismissed David Cameron’s predictions of economic disaster outside the EU as ‘Project Fear’. Yet that stance seems at odds with the dire warnings she issued at the Hansar...
Oxford Professor Ngaire Woods on a Brexit UK's position in Trade deal negotiations

Ngaire Woods, Oxford University, Opinion; Big consequences of Brexit : Some countries can go it alone. The USA has such a big market (and firepower) that it can practically dictate the terms of its trade agreements with other countries. North Korea doesn't need them since it's closed to most of the world. But Britain is (and has been for centuries) an open trading economy. It attracts jobs and ...

God. Today, all we’d get is stupid gotcha questions and load of cliché and unsubstantiated waffle from vastly inferior politicians. Thatcher showed leadership, was in total command of her brief, knew her sharply focussed goals, was philosophically consistent, and was articulate and virtually word perfect. She had substance and a genuine belief in her mission.

I fully agree with Tony Benn’s position about the electorate and being able to hire and fire its MPs, and that being at the foundation of democracy however, there is one significant caveat. The rise in corporate power. There are companies in Silicon Valley that can decide how democracy works in Britain for example and the British public have no say in how that company or other corporations influence decisions that are made in the British Isles. Add to this the power of media corporations and other lobbyists that shape public policy and public opinion in far more influential ways that MPs can. This includes War and war and immigration go hand in hand. Democracy can and is being bought and we would all be naive to think otherwise regardless of our political persuasion. Communism is despised for it flaws, but capitalism often plays more mind games that are accepted under the ever enticing misleading banner of ‘Freedom and Liberty’. Power to the people.

While it's a pity the aspect ratio is out of whack, that was very enjoyable. I don't think I've listened to a Jeremy Thorpe speech before, and what an impressive orator he was! I only wish David Cameron had spoken with half that passion in defence of the EU over the years before the referendum instead of half-attacking it before improvising a weak and complaisant campaign.

Tony Benn completely slaughtered by Jenkins on his dodgy ‘we’ll negotiate a free trade area’ idea. Listen to what he says about it. *”To say ‘we’d get the best arrangement we can’ tells us nothing at all. That is obviously something anyone would say, but it’s not informative; it’s merely a declaration of hope and intention.”* Precisely! He could have said exactly the same to the hapless brexiteers in 2016 with their unicorn demands, cakeism, and their risible ‘they need us more than we need them’ mantra. Benn, like all brexiteers lived in cloud cuckoo land.

Not me, I voted out, but lost 6:38 and had to watch this Country being dismantled beyond repair. The EU is anti democratic and always has been. May it dissolve asap
